COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY
Exceeding Expectations One Patient at a Time
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), also known as cognitive behavioral therapy, is a psychosocial intervention that is the most widely used evidence-based practice for improving mental health . Guided by empirical research, GST focuses on developing personal coping strategies aimed at solving current problems and changing problematic patterns of cognitive approaches (eg, thoughts, beliefs, and moods), behaviors, and emotional regulation. Originally designed to treat depression, it is now used for many mental health conditions.
In therapy, the focus is on how the person perceives and evaluates an event, and not so much on the event itself. The cognitive processes that occur automatically during assessment are the goal during treatment. A problematic evaluation of an event can lead to the formation of a false belief resulting in a different behavior of the individual towards this event than he would have if he evaluated it differently.
